SEO Panel
Multi-site SEO control panelThe project documents a site auditor and keyword position checker, with a PHP, MySQL and web-server setup. Trial the modules and external data connections you actually need.

Audits of individual web pagesGoogle’s project audits web pages for performance, accessibility and other checks, including SEO. Use it for page diagnostics; its audit score does not report keyword positions.

Search-engine rank checkingThe linked repository is archived and its maintainer says fixes and pull requests are no longer accepted. Treat it as legacy code to assess, with maintenance work explicitly assigned.

Ask these questions in your trial. Open a question to see the evidence to keep; use the CSV to record your answers.
TaskWhich recurring SEO task and output must the tool reproduce?
Ask for: Fixed URL or keyword sample and expected report.
ProjectWhich repository, release and maintenance notice did we inspect?
Ask for: Dated project and version record.
DataWhere does each metric come from and what access does it require?
Ask for: Source mapping and access conditions.
CollectionWhat happens when a data request or scheduled run fails?
Ask for: Failure observation and monitoring record.
OperationsWho owns updates, access, backups and restore tests?
Ask for: Named owner and operating procedure.
CostWhat hosting, external data and staff effort does the same task require?
Ask for: Itemised scenario and assumptions.
ReportingCan another person recreate the report from the export?
Ask for: Portable sample and independent read-back.
DecisionWhich work remains unresolved before we rely on this setup?
Ask for: Decision, owner and follow-up date.

Work through the review
Start with the task: auditing your pages, tracking a keyword set or reporting search performance. Open-source projects can help with different parts of this work, but they do not automatically provide the same data or operating service as a hosted platform. Use the examples below to frame a trial, then record the version, data source and owner you tested.
Choose an output before choosing a project
Write down the report your team needs every week and the decision it supports. A page audit, a keyword position history and a site performance report are different outputs. Use a fixed set of URLs or keywords and define the expected fields, collection date and export format. Test that exact output in the open-source project and any hosted alternative. Do not compare the number of menu items: a tool with a narrower scope may complete your task, while a broader suite may still need another data source.
Verify data access separately from the software
Identify where each number comes from: a page your team can fetch, an authorised analytics account, a paid API or another collection service. Record credentials, allowances, collection frequency and any restrictions relevant to your use. Test what happens when a credential expires or a request fails. Keep missing data visible instead of silently carrying an old number forward. Source access and software access are separate questions; being able to run the code does not demonstrate that tomorrow’s required data will arrive.
Name the person who will keep it running
Before adopting a self-hosted setup, assign the operating tasks: installation, updates, authentication, backups, restore tests and monitoring failed jobs. Record the specific release and dependencies used in your trial, then have a second person reproduce the setup. Read the project’s maintenance notices directly. A repository can remain downloadable after active work stops, as the linked legacy Serposcope repository illustrates. A fork or replacement has its own maintenance position to check; a familiar project name is not enough.
Compare the recurring work as well as the invoice
Estimate hosting, external data, storage, support and the hours spent on maintenance and reporting. Compare the same task and period with a hosted offer, including any mandatory plan and usage allowance. Keep one-time setup apart from recurring effort. Run a second scenario for a larger keyword or URL set and note the assumptions that have not been tested. A zero licence charge is one line in the estimate, not a complete operating budget. Record who will revisit the estimate after the first representative run.
Prove that another person can use the output
Export the trial result with dates, source identifiers and configuration. Ask a colleague to recreate the intended report without access to your session. Check historical data, annotations, custom dimensions and the mapping of URLs or keywords. Then rehearse restoring the application or moving the report to another tool, depending on the chosen setup. Keep the trial result and unresolved work in the worksheet. SaaS Ranking’s hosted-vendor transparency evidence can support supplier review, but it is not a score for the quality or maintenance of an open-source project.
Source and scope
The examples link directly to project documentation and describe their stated scope or maintenance notice as reviewed on this date. They are examples for different tasks, not a best-tools ranking, an installation audit or a recommendation. The worksheet is our editorial evaluation process.
